About

Hi, I'm Laurel

Thank you so much for taking the time to explore my work.

My name is Laurel Saul, and I feel incredibly grateful to spend my life doing what I love. I'm drawn to people who are unapologetically themselves and who think outside the box. I find so much joy in capturing that authenticity through my lens. As a photographer, I'm always searching for the intimate moments of joy, humor, and beauty that unfold within life's most meaningful occasions. Apples & Honey Photography is based in Carlsbad, California, just north of San Diego.

I grew up surrounded by art, and from a young age, creativity was how I made sense of the world. My passion for photography began in high school, learning the fundamentals in the darkroom and shooting black-and-white film. While I've since transitioned to digital, the smell of darkroom chemicals still brings a sense of nostalgia. I have a fine Art Degree from Art Center College of Design where I enjoyed studying a wide variety of mediums. I actually never imagined I'd become a wedding or event photographer. The first wedding I photographed was for a friend, and I was immediately drawn to the pace of it, the need to react instinctively and create something meaningful from the way the day unfolded. For more than 14 years, I've been photographing weddings and events, continually inspired by the candid, in-between moments that so often say the most.

I strive to create images that are both beautiful and approachable— photographs that evoke emotion while celebrating genuine connection. My work blends an artistic eye with a documentary style, allowing me to create a comfortable space where real moments can naturally unfold.

Outside of photography, I find joy in the simple things: exploring new places, experimenting with recipes, gardening, traveling, and spending time with my husband, Darren, and our three children. My philosophy in both life and work is the same: embrace the authentic moments. I feel endlessly grateful to witness and preserve so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences!
