On Quiet Weddings

By Laurel Saul · March 14, 2025

There is a particular hush in the moments just before a small ceremony begins. The room is mostly waiting, mostly breathing, and almost everything I love about this work happens in that silence.

I've spent years photographing weddings of every scale, and I keep returning to the same truth: it isn't the size of the celebration that produces the lasting images. It is the willingness to be unguarded.

When you give yourselves permission to be present — to look at each other, to cry if you need to, to laugh at the wrong moment — the photographs simply happen. My job, on those days, is to be quiet enough to notice.

If you're planning something small and intentional, please reach out. I would love to hear about it.
