What to Wear for Family Portraits
By Laurel Saul · January 8, 2025
The simplest rule: choose a palette, not a uniform. Three or four colors that live comfortably together — soft neutrals, a single warm tone, something deeper for grounding — will always read better than coordinated outfits.
Texture beats pattern. Linen, cotton, fine knits. Skip logos and large graphics. Skip the brand-new white sneakers. Comfortable shoes, always.
Most importantly: wear what looks like you. The portraits I love most are the ones in which the family looks at ease, not assembled.
